IDEAL Daily Product Clinical Study Conducted by Illinois College of Optometry, Lead By Dr. Pang Yi
This study evaluated the clinical performance of the IDEAL mififilcon A daily disposable silicone hydrogel contact lens in 45 habitual contact lens wearers between the ages of 20 and 41 over a 10-day wearing period. Participants had myopia ranging from -0.75 D to -10.00 D and underwent assessments of visual acuity, lens fit, comfort, handling, and overall satisfaction. The study also directly compared mififilcon A with three leading silicone hydrogel daily disposable lenses—stenfilcon A, kalifilcon A, and verofilcon A—to determine whether its clinical performance was comparable to established products.
Overall, the IDEAL mififilcon A lens demonstrated excellent fitting characteristics and visual performance. Every participant achieved full lens coverage and acceptable lens movement, while nearly all lenses exhibited proper centration. Visual acuity was excellent, averaging approximately -0.06 logMAR in both eyes after 10 days of wear. Most participants also reported a positive wearing experience: 80% found the lenses comfortable immediately after insertion, over 70% remained comfortable throughout the day, and nearly half still reported comfort at the end of the day. The lenses were also rated highly for ease of opening, handling, and determining lens orientation, while most participants described their vision as clear and the overall lens quality as high or very high.
When compared with stenfilcon A, mififilcon A produced similar visual acuity, wearing time, and overall comfort, with no statistically significant differences between the two lenses. Although habitual wearers showed a slight preference for stenfilcon A in terms of subjective comfort, both lenses provided high levels of visual quality and user satisfaction. These findings suggest that mififilcon A performs on par with one of the leading silicone hydrogel daily disposable lenses available today.
Comparisons with kalifilcon A and verofilcon A also demonstrated strong performance. Against kalifilcon A, mififilcon A provided slightly better visual acuity while maintaining similar wearing time and comfort scores. Against verofilcon A, visual acuity and wearing time were again comparable, but mififilcon A achieved a significantly better overall comfort and quality score. Across all three comparisons, participants consistently reported good comfort, excellent vision, and favorable handling characteristics with mififilcon A, indicating that its clinical performance is competitive with multiple premium daily disposable silicone hydrogel lenses.
In conclusion, the study found that the IDEAL mififilcon A daily disposable silicone hydrogel lens delivers excellent visual performance, reliable fitting characteristics, and high levels of wearer comfort. Participants experienced clear vision, easy handling, and good overall satisfaction, while head-to-head comparisons showed performance that was comparable to stenfilcon A, kalifilcon A, and verofilcon A, with an advantage in overall comfort over verofilcon A. These findings support mififilcon A as a clinically effective daily disposable contact lens capable of providing a comfortable wearing experience and visual quality comparable to other leading silicone hydrogel daily disposable lenses on the market.
